SUWANEE - Sometimes one is enough.
Taylor Rakes certainly made that lone run stand up. The Norcross pitcher threw a two-hit shutout as Norcross beat Peachtree Ridge 1-0 in a Region 7-AAAAA game on Wednesday.
The Blue Devils (10-5, 4-1) took the lead in the top of the seventh when Tyler Roach scored on a passed ball with two outs. He reached on his second single of the day. Rakes (4-1) struck out six to get the win.
BASEBALL
Dacula 10, Cedar Shoals 0
DACULA - Zach Breaux pitched a one-hitter as Dacula shut out Cedar Shoals 10-0 in five innings on Wednesday. Breaux (2-4) struck out seven to get the win. Tyler Jarvis and Chris Owens each went 2-for-3 for the Falcons (7-8, 6-7). Owens had a double and three RBIs. Taylor Smith went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, while Ryan Schuble drove in two runs.
Mill Creek 8, North Forsyth 2
CUMMING - Brandon Bast won his fourth-straight decision as Mill Creek knocked off North Forsyth 8-2 in Region 7-AAAAA play on Wednesday. Bast (4-0) pitched six quality innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out two. Tyler Akins struck out two in a scoreless seventh.
Jake German drove in four runs on two hits for the Hawks (10-3, 5-0) while Nick Loving went 1-for-1 with a double.
Duluth 6, Forsyth Central 3
DULUTH - Duluth hit two homers in a 6-3 win over Forsyth Central on Wednesday. Jared Van Camp and Luke Jordan (3-for-3) each hit a two-run blast for the Wildcats (3-10, 1-4). Reid Merwin went 2-for-3 with a double. Jacob Mauldin (3-0) pitched four innings of relief to get the win. He allowed two runs and three hits, while striking out two. He came in for Travis Brinker who allowed a run over three innings.
Brookwood 13, Shiloh 2
SNELLVILLE - Brookwood won its Region 8-AAAAA opener, beating Shiloh 13-2 in five innings on Wednesday. Ronnie Freeman hit a three-run homer, drove in four runs, and went 3-for-3 to lead the Broncos (13-1, 1-0). Chase Hawkins (6-0) allowed one hit and struck out four over three innings to get the win. Jordan Erisman, Ross Heffley, Buddy Jones, Grayson Flack and Jon Robinson all had hits for Brookwood.
Collins Hill 18, South Forsyth 0
CUMMING - Collins Hill hit two homers in a 18-0 pounding of South Forsyth in three innings on Wednesday in Region 7-AAAAA play. Grant Earls hit a three-run homer and drove in six runs to lead the Eagles (7-8, 3-2). He went 2-for-2 at the plate. Garritt Church (2-for-3, three runs) also hit a two-run homer. Chris McGowan went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, while James Buckelew drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Michael Adams scored three runs.
Nick Squegila (3-1) struck out three as part of a two-hit shutout.
GIRLS SOCCER
Dacula 4, Clarke Central 1
ATHENS - Alexis Scott scored twice to lead Dacula to a 4-1 win over Clarke Central on Wednesday. Chelsea Fishman and Chole Steggman also scored goals for the Falcons (11-2, 6-0). Bri Adinolsi, Paige Placido, Emily Kubal, and Becca Juanais each had an assist.
Heritage Academy 3, Colonial Hills 0
LITHIA SPRINGS - Heather Uhrinek scored a pair of goals and Amanda Roth added a third as Heritage Academy beat Colonial Hills Christian 3-0.
Jesse Sutton had the shutout in goal for Heritage Academy (3-1-2).

Dacula 5, Clarke Central 1
ATHENS - Ado Junuzovic had a goal and two assists, leading Dacula to a 5-1 win over Clarke Central on Wednesday. Derek Jones, Tyler Scott, Luis Huertas, and Daniel Carranida each scored a goal for the Falcons (11-2-1, 5-1). Jonathan Pindeia and Jamie Gleeson both had assists.

Collins Hill freshman sets school record
SUWANEE - Its been a good week for Lauren Court. The Collins Hill freshman broke the school record for the second time in a week as Collins Hill beat Norcross 83-108 on Wednesday at the Collins Hill Golf Course. Court fired a 1-over par 36 to lead the Eagles (8-3). That broke the old record by three shots. Hilla Lehtovuori shot a 51 for Blue Devils.
Parkview knocks off Grayson
SNELLVILLE - Parkview beat Grayson 88-108 on Wednesday at Summit Chase. Amanda Xu shot a 43 to lead the Panthers. Tori Van Wyen posted a 52 for the Rams.
Buford falls in tri-match
DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County beat Buford and Fannin County on Wednesday at Gold Creek Golf Resort. The Wolves finished second with a score of 84. That was five strokes behind Dawson County, while Fannin County finished with a 131. Abby Johnson led Buford with a 40.
BOYS GOLF
Grayson holds off Parkview
SNELLVILLE - Mike Allison shot a 35 to lead Grayson over Parkview 151-157 on Wednesday at Summit Chase. Josh Sullins added a 36 for the Rams. Ted Moon and Peter Kim each shot a 37.
Norcross upends Collins Hill
SUWANEE - Norcross knocked off Collins Hill 154-160 on Wednesday at the Collins Hill Golf Club. Matt Luckett fired a 1-over par round of 36 to lead the Blue Devils. Andrew Sterritt and Rob Evans each fired 37s for the Eagles (9-3).
Buford falls to Dawson County in tri-match
DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County knocked off Buford and Fannin County on Wednesday at Gold Creek Golf Resort. Dawson County beat the Wolves by 14. Buford finished with a 169, while Fannin Co. shot a 171. Josh Martindale posted a 41 for the Wolves.

Buford 5, Gainesville 0
GAINESVILLE - Buford shut out Gainesville 5-0 on Wednesday. Audrey Marlette, Bekah Beaty and Jordan Poole all won singles matches for the Wolves (12-6). Whitney Holman and Cortland West earned a point at No. 1 doubles. Janey Burge and Michelle Hanley won the No. 2 doubles match.
Brookwood 5, Heritage 0
CONYERS - Brookwood had no problem with Heritage in a 5-0 win on Wednesday. Jordan Johnston, Hailey Denson, and Katherine Shaw swept the singles matches for the Broncos (15-0). Nicole Hernandez and Stephanie Hedlund took care of the No. 1 doubles match, while the No. 2 team of Katie Williams and Lindsey Peyton won their match.
Grayson 5, Central Gwinnett 0
LOGANVILLE - Grayson swept Central Gwinnett 5-0 on Wednesday. Sisters Catherine and Courtney Williams won their singles matches as did Carrie Smith. The No. 1 doubles pair of Amanda Craig and Caitlin Smith earned a win for the Rams (10-5), while the No. 2 pair of Morgan Smith and Whitley Lewis also won.

LOGANVILLE - Grayson shut out Central Gwinnett 5-0 in a Region 8-AAAAA match on Wednesday. Grant Garner, Tyler Rutland, and Seth Webster all won singles matches for the Rams (9-6, 6-2). Kevin Harris and Eddy Bowie took care of the No. 1 doubles match. Mike Burns and Justin Wade combined to win at No. 2 doubles.
Brookwood 4, Heritage 1
CONYERS - Brookwood remained unbeaten after a 4-1 win over Heritage on Wednesday. The Broncos (17-0) swept the doubles matches with wins at No. 1 doubles from Tyler Ruby and Jonathan Surls and the No. 2 team of Arvind Sekar and Jonathan Lamparter. Zach Jones won the No. 2 singles match, while Logan Taylor earned a point at No. 3 singles.
Dacula 5, Jackson Co. 0
JEFFERSON - Dacula swept Jackson County 5-0 on Wednesday. Kevin Ramberg, Anwar Ferdinand and Chris Ragan all earned singles wins for the Falcons (13-3, 10-1). Ryan Meyer and Justin Rush won the No. 1 doubles, while Blake Hutchins and Clayton Sharp earned a point at No. 2 doubles.
Gainesville 4, Buford 1
GAINESVILLE - Buford fell to Gainesville 4-1 on Wednesday. Ben Hunter and Ryan Speed were the Wolves' (13-5) lone winners. They won the No. 1 doubles match.
