Prep roundup: Garvin ties Wesleyan strikeout record with 17
NORCROSS - Grayson Garvin has done this before. But he is one of few.

The Wesleyan ace tied his school record with 17 strikeouts, while pitching a no-hitter as Wesleyan beat Walker 1-0. The Vanderbilt recruit had only two walks.

He is now 2-0.

The Wolves (5-2, 1-0) didn't fair much better at the plate. They had just three hits, but had a big one in the third. Ben Tucker hit a solo homer. He finished 1-for-3.

BASEBALL

Providence 9, Central 7


LILBURN - Reliever Jonathan Leverett pitched lights-out, leading Providence to a 9-7 win over Central Gwinnett on Thursday. Leverett (2-0) pitched 31â"3 no hit innings for the Stars (8-2) to get the win. Jon Walker and Chris Wages each went 3-for-4 with solo homers and two runs scored. Wages added a double. Jon Walker was also 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBIs.

Addison McDowell went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. The Black Knights fall to 7-3.

GAC 8, Buford 1

BUFORD - After being shutout for the first five innings, GAC broke loose with eight runs in the final two to beat Buford 8-1 on Thursday.

The Spartans (5-1, 1-0) scored six runs in the seventh inning to give Andrew Steckenrider the win. He pitched three innings in relief, allowing a run and three hits to go with a pair of strikeouts. Steckenrider also hit a three-run homer for the Spartans. Stephen Pepper went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Colton Chapple scored twice and went 1-for-3.

Norcross 11, Newton 1

NORCROSS - Jacob Matthews was dealing as Norcross beat Newton 11-1 in five innings on Thursday.

Matthews (1-2) faced 20 hitters and struck out nine of them to get the win. He went all five innings, allowing three hits and an earned run for the Blue Devils (5-4). Matt Kinney hit a two-run homer as part of a 2-for-3 game. Beau Buckler also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Brookwood 15, Kennesaw Mt. 2

KENNESAW - Jordan Erisman hit two homers to lead Brookwood to a 15-2 win over Kennesaw Mountain on Thursday.

Jordan Erisman hit a three-run homer and a solo shot as part of a 3-for-4 day. He drove in four runs for the Broncos (8-1). Ross Hefley also hit a solo homer, while Seth Adkins went 3-for-3 with a triple. Chase Hawkins added two hits and two RBIs.

North 11, Grayson 4

LOGANVILLE - Jim Moreland and Nick McCouch had perfect days at the plate as North Gwinnett beat Grayson 11-4 on Thursday. Moreland went 5-for-5 with a two-run homer and a pair of doubles for the Bulldogs (6-2). McCouch was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three extra-base hits. Ronnie Stewart went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Taylor Forrester was also 2-for-4.

Dacula 14, Alcovy 4

COVINGTON - Dacula picked up a Region 8-AAAA win, beating Alcovy 14-4 in six innings Thursday.

Zach Breaux (4-5, 4-4) was the winning pitcher. He pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs and six hits. He struck out four for the Falcons (4-5, 4-4). Chris Owens and Taylor Smith each went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Jacob Kinney went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Oliver Pratt drove in two runs and had two hits.

Mill Creek 10, Alpharetta 2

ALPHARETTA - Brandon Bast pitched six strong innings to lead Mill Creek to a 10-2 win over Alpharetta on Thursday.

Bast (3-0) gave up an earned run and two hits to go with a strikeout. Noah Hanley went 3-for-5 with a run for the Hawks (5-2). Johnny Knight went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hunter Pope was 2-for-4 with a double, while Matt Tunnell went 1-for-4 with three RBIs.

Killian Hill 19, Shiloh Hills 1

KENNESAW - Chase Williams went 4-for-4 as Killian Hill beat up on Shiloh Hills 19-1 in five innings Thursday.

Williams had four RBIs, while Kyle Bailey and Austin Parks each drove in two. They also had two hits each. Paul Hudson went 2-for-3.

Parks (4-0) was the winning pitcher. He pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and an unearned run. Parks also had eight strikeouts.

Prince Avenue 6, Hebron 5

BOGART - Hebron gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh, losing to Prince Avenue 6-5 on Thursday.

Ben Mason picked up the loss. He pitched 21â"3 innings, giving up two hits and two runs. Danny Lockhart drove in a run to put the Lions (7-2, 2-2) up in the sixth. Bobby Cole went 2-for-3, while John Crawford had two hits.

GIRLS SOCCER

Shiloh 1, Berkmar 0


LILBURN - Shiloh scored the game-winning goal on a corner kick in the second half to beat Berkmar 1-0 on Thursday.

Laynie Gilbert scored off a corner kick from Kelsey Floyd in the 59th minute for the Generals (4-7, 3-2). Emma Crumpton had six saves in the shutout.

BOYS SOCCER

Wesleyan 5, Hebron 0


DACULA - Michael Cornelius had a hat trick to lead Wesleyan over Hebron 5-0 on Thursday.

Cornelius finished with three goals, while Greg Mackenzie added two goals and an assist for the Wolves (6-3-1, 3-2). Spencer Brown and Matt Karempelis each had an assist.

Buford 4, Athens Academy 0

BUFORD - Daniel Villasuerte made eight saves in a shutout as Buford beat Athens Academy 4-0 on Thursday. Cole Chandler had two goals and an assist to lead the Wolves (7-4, 2-2). Gelardo Mondragon and Gabino Alanis also scored goals for Buford.

GIRLS TENNIS

Central 5, Shiloh 0


LAWRENCEVILLE - Central Gwinnett shutout Shiloh 5-0 in a Region 8-AAAAA match Thursday.

Mary Opata, Christina Eister and Shirley Ann Bas all earned singles wins for the Black Knights (5-2, 2-1). Rachel Johnson and Stephanie Hollingsworth combined to win the No. 1 doubles match. Jennifer Hollingsworth and Emily Bishop earned a point at No. 2 doubles.

North 3, Peachtree Ridge 2

SUWANEE - North Gwinnett held on to beat Peachtree Ridge 3-2 on Thursday.

Chelsea Coch won at No. 2 singles for the Bulldogs (9-4, 4-1). Nicole Coch and Caroline Wike earned a point at No. 1 doubles, while Amanda Wikman and Tori Mililli won at No. 2 doubles.

Brookwood 5, Parkview 0

LILBURN - Brookwood remained unbeaten with a 5-0 shutout over rival Parkview on Thursday.

Courtney McLane, Dana Guentert, and Katherine Shaw each won singles matches for the Broncos (11-0. 5-0). Katie Williams and Jordan Johnston won at No. 1 doubles, while Hailey Denson and Nicole Hernandez won at No. 2 doubles.

Berkmar 4, Meadowcreek 1

LILBURN - Berkmar swept the singles matches in a 4-1 win over Meadowcreek on Thursday at Mountain Park.

Lauren Maness, Amy Tran and Athena Chea all had singles wins for the Patriots. Camtu Huynh and Sophie Nguyen won at No. 2 doubles for Berkmar.

GAC 5, Buford 0

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian shutout Buford 5-0 on Thursday.

Morgan Winston, Chelsea Sanders and Rachel Gray all won their singles matches for the Spartans (11-1, 4-1). Rebecca Gray and Jessica Tuggle took care of the No. 1 doubles match. Elizabeth McMurray and Brooke Lewis won the No. 2 match.

Mill Creek 4, Norcross 1

NORCROSS - Mill Creek beat Norcross 4-1 in Region 7-AAAAA play Thursday.

Bailey Dodge, Stacey Mottesheard and Michelle Yau swept the singles matches for the Hawks (13-1, 7-0). Kristy Yau and Nela Handac earned a point at No. 1 doubles.

The Blue Devils win came at No. 2 doubles from Tracy Bain and Cameryn Massey.

Collins Hill 4, Duluth 1

DULUTH - Collins Hill earned a Region 7-AAAAA win with a 4-1 victory over Duluth on Thursday.

The Eagles (7-4, 4-2) swept both doubles matches with wins from the No. 1 doubles team of Kelly Sullivan and Erin Ensley, and the No. 2 duo of Abby Owensby and Kelsey Arnall. K. Kiyomi Doscher won at No. 2 singles and Emily Flood won at No. 3.

Athens Christian 4, Hebron 1

ATHENS - Hebron lost to Athens Christian 4-1 on Thursday.

Sarah Hendrick won the No. 1 singles match for the Lions (8-1).

BOYS TENNIS

Brookwood 3, Parkview 2


LILBURN - Brookwood knocked off Parkview 3-2 in a battle of the unbeatens in Region 8-AAAAA.

The Broncos (12-0, 5-0) were led by their doubles teams. Jonathan Surls and Chris Eastwood won at No. 1 doubles, while Brace Becknell and Logan Taylor took care of the No. 2 match. Devin Flynn earned Brookwood's lone singles point at No. 2.

The Panthers (11-3, 4-1) picked up wins from No. 1 singles player Thomas Cook and No. 3 Lance Mengel.

Collins Hill 4, Duluth 1

DULUTH - Collins Hill beat Duluth 4-1 in Region 7-AAAAA play Thursday.

Acy Estes and Richard Rumble won at No. 1 singles. Brad Chambers and Chris Clayton teamed up to win the No. 2 match for the Eagles (7-4, 3-3). Michael Rafizadeh won at No. 1 singles for Collins Hill, while Ryan Maloney earned a point at No. 2 singles.

Central 5, Shiloh 0

LAWRENCEVILLE - Central Gwinnett knocked off Shiloh 5-0 in Region 8-AAAAA play Thursday.

Scott Polvak, Michael Elmankavady and Dino Kunovac all won their singles matches. Matt Jackson and John Mummel earned a point at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 match was won on a forfeit.

Berkmar 5, Meadowcreek 0

LILBURN - Berkmar swept Meadowcreek 5-0 in a Region 8-AAAAA match Thursday at Mountain Park.

Phuc Ma, Justin Williams and Zach Munza all won singles matches for the Patriots. Tommy Tran and Justin Zhu earned a point at No. 1 doubles. Aniket Shah and E.J. Martinez won at No. 2 doubles.

Mill Creek 3, Norcross 2

NORCROSS - Mill Creek squeaked by Norcross 3-2 on Thursday.

Taylor Lacy and T.J. Mullins earned a point at No. 1 doubles, while the team of Lee Mike Turner and Blair Kievit won the No. 2 match. No. 1 Jordan Arenes was the Hawks (9-5, 5-2) lone singles winner.

The Blue Devils earned points from No. 2 singles player Joe Beverly and No. 3 Jeremiah Farmer.

Dacula 4, Winder-Barrow 1

DACULA - Dacula swept the doubles matches in a 4-1 win over Winder-Barrow in Region 8-AAAA play Thursday.

Brandon Tucker and Zach Nelson earned a point at No. 1 doubles, while Ryan Meyer and Justin Rush won at No. 2 doubles for the Falcons (7-3, 5-1).

Anwar Ferdinand won at No. 2 singles and Chris Ragan took care of the No. 3 singles match.

GAC 5, Buford 0

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian won its fifth straight Region 6-AA match in a 5-0 shutout of Buford on Thursday.

Chad Day, Will Lewis and Ryan Miller swept the singles matches for the Spartans. Matt Maggart and Justin Lumsden took care of the No. 1 doubles match. Brad Bartlett and Jake Montgomery won at No. 2 doubles.

GIRLS GOLF

Collins Hill beats North


SUWANEE - Collins Hill beat North Gwinnett 93-101 on Thursday at Collins Hill Golf Club.

Lauren Court shot a 44 to lead the Eagles (5-1).

Norcross falls to South Forsyth

DULUTH - Norcross lost to South Forsyth 113-119 on Thursday at Berkley Hills Country Club.

Hilla Lehtovnori shot a 54, while Katie Bostick shot a 65 for the Blue Devils.

Buford takes care of Providence

BUFORD - Buford beat Providence 99-111 on Thursday at Pine Isle.

Abby Johnson shot a 45 for the Wolves (4-3). Christine Wilson added a 54.

BOYS GOLF

Collins Hill upends North


SUWANEE - Collins Hill took care of North Gwinnett 164-176 on Thursday at the Collins Hill Golf Club.

Chad Whaley shot a 3-over 39 to lead the Eagles (5-1). Michael Lee had the low round of the day with a 37 for the Bulldogs.

Norcross gets region win

DULUTH - Norcross held off South Forsyth 168-171 to earn a Region 7-AAAAA win at Berkley Hill Country Club on Thursday.

Eric Quinn shot a 40 to lead the Blue Devils. Jonathan Lynn added a 41.

Buford edges out Providence

BUFORD - Mookie DeMoss shot an even-par round but it wasn't enough as Buford beat Providence 184-189 on Thursday at Pine Isle.

Patrick Hall led the Wolves (4-3) with a 43. DeMoss finished with a 36 for the Stars (8-2).

Shiloh handles Meadowcreek

SNELLVILLE - Shiloh knocked off Meadowcreek 179-249 on Thursday at the Country Club of Gwinnett.

Stephen Ely shot a 4-over par round of 40 for the Generals (2-4, 2-3), while Drew Libowsky added a 44. Chris Lei shot a 48 to lead the Mustangs.
