Prep Roundup: Collins Hill slams door on Parkview in 6-4 victory

SUWANEE - James Buckelew couldn't quite finish what he started.

The Collins Hill starter left with two outs and two on in the top of the seventh. It took Reed Buck one pitch to slam the door. He got his first save as Collins Hill beat No. 2 Parkview 6-4 on Wednesday in a non-region baseball game.

Buckelew (2-0) did get the win. He had five strikeouts and gave up nine hits in 62⁄3 innings.

Tommy Yeo led the Eagles (3-3) with four RBIs and a solo home run. Curtis Guest went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Michael Adams went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Zack Olson (1-1) got the loss for the Panthers (3-2). He pitched 21⁄3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits to go with three strikeouts and two walks. Kenny Bellavance went 2-for-4. Tom Richardson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Kenny Miller was also 2-for-3 and had an RBI.

BASEBALL

Brookwood 4, Northview 3


SNELLVILLE - Ross Heffley drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh as topped-ranked Brookwood beat Northview 4-3 on Wednesday. Heffley ripped a single to left field to drove in Jordan Erisman to give the Broncos (5-0) the win. Erisman led off the inning with a double. He went 2-for-4. Ronnie Freeman went 2-for-3, while Buddy Jones was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Seth Adkins and Jon Robinson also had hits.

Chase Hawkins started for Brookwood and picked up a no-decision. He allowed three runs, one earned, in six innings. Hawkins struck out eight and allowed five hits. Michael Brown (1-0) got the win, striking out one in a perfect seventh.

Central 6, Duluth 0

LAWRENCEVILLE - Jake Spear pitched a two-hit shutout to lead No. 8 Central Gwinnett to its seventh straight win, beating Duluth 6-0 on Wednesday. Spear (3-0) struck out two in seven innings to get the win for the Black Knights (7-0). Tyler Hampton went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and a run scored. Devon Monetta score two runs, drove in one and went 2-for-2.

Ricky Lowe (0-1) picked up the loss for the Wildcats (1-3). He gave up five runs in five innings to go with three strikeouts. Jared Van Camp and Wesley Newton each had a single.

Sprayberry 6, North 5

MARIETTA - North Gwinnett gave up three runs, two of them unearned, in the sixth inning as part of a 6-5 loss to Sprayberry on Wednesday. Nick Jones (1-0) picked up the loss. He pitched the sixth, giving up an unearned run. Tommy Abrahamson started for the Bulldogs (4-2). He went five innings, allowing four runs and four hits to go with two strikeouts.

Jim Moreland went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead North. Ronnie Stewart was 2-for-4. Jones drove in two runs with a double.

Tucker 5, Berkmar 3

LILBURN - Jake Hendrickson pitched a complete game, but it wasn't enough as Tucker beat Berkmar 5-3 on Wednesday. Hendrickson (0-1) scattered nine hits and allowed two earned runs while striking out six. Mark Miller went 2-for-4 to lead the Patriots (1-5). He had two doubles and an RBI. Cody Jett also had two hits and drove in a run.

Loganville 3, Dacula 0

DACULA - Despite a strong outing by Zach Breaux, Dacula lost to Loganville 3-0 in a Region 8-AAAA game on Wednesday. Breaux (0-3) picked up the loss. He went six innings, allowing two earned runs, two hits, and striking out eight. Jessie Parker went 2-for-3 for the Falcons (3-3, 3-2). Ryan Schuble was 1-for-3.

GIRLS SOCCER

Buford 4, Flowery Branch 2


GAINESVILLE - Buford moved into the finals of the North Georgia Cup with a 4-2 win over Flowery Branch on Wednesday. The Wolves (8-1-1) broke a 2-2 tie at the half with goals from Maria Petroni and Katherine Roadcap. Petroni finished with two goals and an assist. Haley Holderfield also scored. Justine Clay had an assist.

Buford plays in the finals on Friday.

GAC 15, Hebron 0

NORCROSS - Kelsey Pelletier scored four goals with an assists and Sammy Abrahart added three goals and an assist on Tuesday night as Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Hebron Christian 15-0.

The Spartans (3-3, 1-1) also got two goals each from Chelsea Cromer and Allie Blinder, as well as single goals from Kristin Frederickson, Madeline Barker, Elise Martin and Kate Thornton. Lauren Bryan had three assists and Frederickson had two, while McKenzie Nelson and Leslie Ireland shared the shutout in goal.

GIRLS TENNIS

Mill Creek 3, North 2


SUWANEE - Mill Creek remains in first place in Region 7-AAAAA with a 3-2 win over North Gwinnett on Thursday. The Hawks (10-1, 4-0) won all three singles matches. Bailey Dodge earned a point at No. 1 singles. Kristy Yau earned a point at No. 2, while Nela Handac won at No. 3.

Parkview 4, Dacula 1

LILBURN - Parkview knocked off Dacula 4-1 in a non-region match on Wednesday. The Panthers swept both doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Rebecca Streich and Christina Holt won their match, as did the No. 2 duo of Anna Fluevog and Samantha Marks. Jordan DeArmon won the No. 2 singles match. Alex Vagasi won at No. 3.

North Hall 3, Buford 2

BUFORD - Despite winning the top two singles matches, Buford fell to North Hall 3-2 on Wednesday. Bekah Beaty won at No. 1 singles, while Jordan Poole earned a point at No. 2 for the Wolves (9-4).

Mill Creek 3, North 2


SUWANEE - Mill Creek held off North Gwinnett 3-2 on Wednesday in a Region 7-AAAAA match. The Hawks (6-5, 2-2) won both doubles matches. Taylor Lacy and T.J. Mullins won the No. 1 singles match. Lee Mike Turner and Tony Tambornino took care of the No. 2 match. Christian Gonzalez won the No. 3 singles match.

Parkview 4, Dacula 1

LILBURN - Parkview swept the singles matches in a 4-1 win over Dacula on Wednesday. Thomas Cook, Lance Mengel and Brandon Patrick took care of the singles matches for the Panthers (4-1). Ryan Lipson and Tony Tran combined to win at No. 2 doubles.

Buford 5, North Hall 0

BUFORD - Buford shut out North Hall 5-0 on Wednesday. Ben Hunter, Fletcher Cline and Preston Benson all won their singles matches for the Wolves (11-2). Andrew Platt and David Markes took care of the No. 1 doubles match. Ryan Speed and Matthew Gates combined to win at No. 2.

Apalachee 4, Social Circle 1

SOCIAL CIRCLE - Apalachee swept both doubles matches in a 4-1 win over Social Circle on Wednesday. Aaron Brown and Jaime Heglend earned a point at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 2 team of Pheng Vue and Tony Yang won at No. 2 doubles for the Wildcats (7-1). In singles match, Josh Mousinho won at No. 2 and Justin Crockett took care of the No. 3 match.

GIRLS GOLF

North gets one-shot win


DACULA - North Gwinnett slipped by Mill Creek 83-84 at the Hamilton Mill Golf Club on Wednesday. Alicia Poole led the Bulldogs with a round of 41. Emilie Burger had the low round of the day, shooting a 40 for the Hawks.

Buford falls to Dawson Co.

BRASELTON - Dawson County knocked off Buford 92-99 on Wednesday at Chateau Elan. Christie Wilson shot a 49 to lead the Wolves (1-3).

BOYS GOLF

Mill Creek upends North


DACULA - Sean Yim shot 2-over par to lead Mill Creek to a 164-177 win over North Gwinnett at the Hamilton Mill Golf Club on Wednesday. Yim finished with a round of 38, while Kevin Lee shot a 39 for the Hawks. Michael Lee posted a round of 41 for the Bulldogs. Matt Wytanis added a 43.

Parkview knocks off South

SNELLVILLE - Parkview beat South Gwinnett 181-200 on Wednesday at Summit Chase Golf Club. Peter Kim, Cameron Batey and Michael Stolorena each shot a 44 to lead the Panthers (2-1). Matt Clayton led the Comets with a 38. Eric Chapman added a 52.

Dawson Co. downs rival Buford

BRAZELTON - Buford lost to Dawson County 169-184 on Wednesday at Chateau Elan. Patrick Hall shot a 44, while Dawson McGlon added a 46 for the Wolves (2-2).
