Prep Roundup: Bast pitches Mill Creek past Duluth

HOSCHTON - Brandon Bast hurled a four-hit shutout on Friday in leading Mill Creek to an 8-0 win over Duluth.

Bast struck out eight with just one walk as his record improved to 5-0 while the team upped its mark to 13-4 overall and 8-1 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Jake German went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs while Hunter Pope was 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Travis Hammond added a 2-for-2 day with an RBI.

Luke Jordan (0-3) started and took the loss, going four innings with four earned runs while Ricky Lowe added two innings of relief with three earned runs. Luke Jordan, Josh McKinney, Wesley Newton and Jacob Jordan each had a hit for Duluth (3-14, 1-8).

BASEBALL

North Forsyth 20, North Gwinnett 14


SUWANEE - North Forsyth and North Gwinnett locked horns in a wild one Friday night with the Raiders coming away with a 20-14 win.

North Forsyth had 16 hits with six home runs, securing the win with four runs in both the fifth and seventh innings.

North Gwinnett (13-5, 6-3) was led by Will Huff, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs, including a grand slam in the fifth to tie the score at 13-13. Nick McCouch also had a three-run homer for North while Josh Wright was 2-for-4 and Taylor Forrester had two hits and an RBI.

Nick Jones started for the Bulldogs and took a no decision, lasting three innings with seven earned runs. Eric Draper, one of seven Bulldog hurlers on the day, was charged with the loss in relief.

Brookwood 10, Berkmar 0

LILBURN - Brookwood improved to 16-1 overall and 4-0 in Region 8-AAAAA on Friday with a 10-0 win over Berkmar in five innings.

Matt Adams pitched all five innings for the win, allowing two hits with a walk and nine strikeouts.

Ronnie Freeman led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a three-run homer while Seth Adkins went 2-for-3 with a two-run blast. Chase Hawkins finished 3-for-3 and Ross Heffley was 2-for-4 while Jon Robinson and Ryan Lewis each had a hit.

Loganville 5, Dacula 2

LOGANVILLE - Loganville picked up a Region 8-AAAA win Friday night by beating Dacula 5-2.

Austin Meyer (2-1) went three innings on the mound for Dacula in suffering his first loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits with one strikeout.

Taylor Smith led the offense for the Falcons (8-11, 7-10), going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Brad Mills also doubled for Dacula while Ryan Schuble and Jeremy Kien each had a hit.

Hebron 6, Athens Academy 5

DACULA - Hebron's Jamie Holt pitched five innings with two strikeouts, scattering six hits as the Lions beat Athens Academy 6-5 on Friday in Region 8-A.

Holt improved his record to 5-2 while Kevin Burgee recorded his third save, pitching two innings with two strikeouts and one hit.

Offensively, Hebron (11-4, 6-4) was led by Danny Lockhart, who was 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base.

Killian Hill 6, Georgia Force 4

LILBURN - Marshall Dickinson went 2-for-4 with five RBIs, including a two-run homer, on Friday in leading Killian Hill to a 6-4 win over the Georgia Force.

Dickinson (4-0) was also the winning pitcher, going 4 1/3 innings with six hits, four runs, four walks and three strikeouts. Aaron Parks, who was also 2-for-2 with an RBI, pitched the final 2 2/3 for the save.

Kyle Bailey and Jon Clute also helped Killian Hill (10-0) with two hits each.

BOYS SOCCER

Parkview 5, Hendersonville, Tenn. 0


LILBURN - Kofi Gyawu posted a hat trick in Parkview's 5-0 win over Hendersonville (Tenn.) on Friday in the Southeastern Soccer Challenge.

Gyawu scored on an assist from Nathan Post in the 15th minute and then in the 41st and 49th minutes on assists from Reid Popple.

Zach Spicher added a goal along with Brian Detweiler on an assist from Trond Liu in the 68th minute.

Goalkeepers Daniel Bullock and Kyle Post recorded the shutout for the Panthers (14-3).

Dacula 3, Salem 2

CONYERS - Dacula nipped Salem 3-2 on Friday night in penalty kicks to advance to the finals of the Region 8-AAAA tournament.

Jonathan Pineda and Luis Huertas each scored a goal for Dacula, both of which were assisted by Brandon Stirrup. Keeper Kris Alonzo helped with two saves during the penalty kicks, which Dacula (13-2-1) won 4-3.

GIRLS SOCCER

North 2, Whitewater 0


SUWANEE - Danielle Au had a goal and an assist on Friday to lead North Gwinnett to a 2-0 win over Whitewater in the Southeastern Soccer Challenge.

Kelly Penston added the other goal while keeper Rebecca Ingram preserved the shutout with seven saves. North improves to 12-4.
